Web Site Accessibility
gov

GovernmentBlogger.com maintains an accessibility goal to make this blog usable for people with visual, auditory, motor, and other disabilities. Accessibility components that have been implemented in this blog include the following design elements and standards.

Design

  • The recommended page resolution for viewing this blog in visual browsers is 32 bit color and 1024 x 768 resolution. This blog has been created using web standards and guidelines and is best viewed in a modern standards compliance browser such as IE or Firefox.
  • All blog pages have implemented object attributes for form objects, tables, frames, media and images.
  • Blog pages enable screen reader support.
  • The blog uses a CSS (cascading style sheet) for visual layout. For optimal viewing and user experience, it is advised that you use a browser with CSS2 support, such as Internet Explorer 6 or better or the current version of Firefox.
  • This site uses relative font sizes, proportional sizing and is compatible with the user-specified "text size" option in visual browsers. The recommended "text size" for viewing this site in a visual browser is medium or 100%.
  • If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets, the content of each page will still be readable.

Standards Compliance

I'm a big believer that leveraging industry standards and industry accepted compliance is an integral part of creating functional and accessible web sites. By designing and developing to W3C and related web standards, the content of this web site is made accessible to a wider range of people and assisted technologies. As a result, the pages on this site adhere to the following standards:

  • Much effort has been made to make sure that blog pages throughout this site comply to at least the W3C WCAG Priority 1 Guidelines.
  • Blog pages on this web site are validated to XHTML and CSS2.
  • Blog pages on this web site use standard structured semantic markup. <h1> tags are used for the page heading, <h2> tags for main headings, <h3> tags for subheadings, <li> tags for list items, and the like.

Validation

I used XHTML 1.0 and CSS to conform to the design standards specified as laid out by the W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines. In an effort to exceed these standards I also run the site against the World Wide Web Consortium's (W3C) Triple-A guidelines. If you have difficulty accessing any material in any area of this blog because of a disability, please contact me and I will attempt to work with you to make the information available. To facilitate a timely follow-up and respond in a manner most helpful to you, please indicate the nature of your accessibility difficulty, the preferred format in which to receive the content, the specific blog page address(es) (URL) which give you difficulties and your contact information.
